Trask River

Trask River: Tillamook, OR

We just had an amazing weekend with delicious food, cold beer & great friends.   We spent the weekend in the Tillamook Forest – the same forest that had the first sighting of Big Foot!  Although Sasquatch didn’t make an appearance, we still managed to be in awe of our surroundings.

We want to thank Peter & Amiee for inviting us to their camping weekend!  It was great spending time with them, Chris, Ashley and Kelly.  Also, congrats to Peter & Chris for their wins in the Tillamook Beer Olympics!

Where We Stayed

We were lucky that Amiee & Ashley left their homes in Portland early Friday morning to lay claim to one of the best camping spots in the area.  The campsite doesn’t do reservations; it is all first come first serve.  This campsite is well of the beaten path with no cell service for miles.  Luckily, tech savvy Peter was able to send us GPS coordinates via a pin drop in Google maps (this is a “secret” campsite that Chris knew about, so we won’t be sharing this location with anyone.  Don’t worry Chris, your secret is safe with us).  As there was no cell service, and we had no local map of the area, we were completely dependent on these Google directions.  Luckily Peter did not steer us wrong, although he did fail to mention the five-mile rough gravel logging road that laid between us and the campsite. Our campsite was perfectly shaded, big and had a little private beach with access to the Trask River.  We were able to get the R-Pod leveled on the gravel slope, after several attempts, patience and luck.

What We Did

The last few days before this weekend were a bit intense, so we absolutely loved sitting in our camp chairs with our feet in the water and a cold beer.

Of course, it wasn’t long before we started the Beer Olympics!  Swimming, chugging, dizzy bat, shotgunning, frisbee throwing and more.  Winning the men’s competition was Peter!  Winning the Co-Ed competition was Chris.  Nice performances by all.  Special thanks to our Judge/Scorekeeper, Ashley, who kept things interesting and made sure we stayed focus on the real task at hand… drinking beer.

After beer Olympics we enjoyed lively conversations and “Would You Rathers” by the camp fire.  We ate great food, shout out to Amiee and her amazing cookies and Peter with his quesadillas!

One of the highlights was watching Sparky enjoy time with Waffle (10-year-old German Shep/Collie Mix).  Sparky also enjoyed his time in the water.  Between all of us, we were able to get Sparky to swim just a little bit.  He is still quite apprehensive about it but now we know he can, and with a little more coaxing we think he can become quite the swimmer.

We were impressed with Chris’ lumberjack skills, especially with his footwear (who knew aqua socks were part of lumberjack attire).  Thanks to his handy work, we stayed toasty warm all weekend long.

What Would We Do Next Time

We loved Oregon camping.  It was so nice camping right next to a creek.  Next time we would like to visit Amiee & Peter in Portland, but probably Sparky/trailer free.  Perhaps we can camp in their backyard?

What’s Next

We are in the car driving towards Seattle to visit Andi’s family.  We are looking forward to some family time, city sightseeing and an actual adult size shower.

  1. Thanks for mentioning about seeing more photos in the photo tab. I thought what was in the blog posting was all of them. Great photos, by the way!

  2. Beer Olympics a perfect camping by the river activity; looks like a lot of fun on a summer afternoon.
